Quote of the Day: Fannie Farmer

"I certainly feel that the time is not far distant when a knowledge of the principles of diet will be an essential part of one's education. Then mankind will eat to live, be able to do better mental and physical work and disease will be less frequent."

Alleviate Stress and Ease Anxiety

from: Oze Parrot

Experts in the United States have conducted studies that show that stress is the major cause of anxiety and depression. The studies, conducted by scientists from Harvard Medical School and Mclean Hospital, where performed using mice as subjects, and results indicated that long term exposure to the stress hormones, cortisol and corticotropin resulted in cases of anxiety and depression.

For some people, life's regular daily events can confront them with a stressful situation which, after a prolonged period of time, can result in bouts of anxiety. Stress can be brought about by friction with an associate at work or school, being held up in traffic and missing an appointment, money problems or a romance gone awry.

No matter what the reason is, the situation needs to be dealt with appropriately in order to alleviate stress and avoid a bout of anxiety. Positive steps must be taken to diffuse a stressful situation and ease any anxiety that may be developing within. Take a few moments to conjure up a pleasant thought and then perform some activity that is enjoyable

Call up a friend and invite them out, or to come over for lunch or dinner, then discuss your problem with him. Go for a swim, lay on the beach, stroll through a park, visit the library or take in a movie. Get out and about, perform an activity that you enjoy, talk to people, discuss your problems with a confidant or loved one, in order to clear your mind and alleviate stress.

When you are driving or commuting, play soothing music or listen to relaxing discussion tapes that will occupy your mind with pleasing and positive thoughts. Also practice this technique in the home and try to avoid the bad news that is so prevalent on TV.

Take a hot bath to relax the body before going to bed, and play a self hypnosis or relaxing recording to assure that you will get a good nights sleep. When you soothe your body and ease your mind you will find that you can deal with the majority of daily events that cause stress, thus avoiding bouts of anxiety.

Take back control of your life by alleviating stress.
