Chronic Anxiety Disorder
from: Oze ParrotAccording to the National Institute of Mental Health, Anxiety is a normal reflex action that is caused by a stressful situation. It helps people to deal with tense situations at home, in the office or at school. Anxiety keeps us focused on important events in our lives that put pressure on us to perform at our peak, and generally helps us to cope with many situations. However, when anxiety becomes an uncontrollable fear of everyday situations, it may become a disabling disorder, unless it is brought under control in it's early stages.
Prolonged stressful situations can lead to chronic anxiety, a serious mental health disorder, that may cause physical and psychological damage to the body, resulting in a permanent disability. Anxiety is one of the most common forms of mental health disorders that is presently being diagnosed in the United States. People suffering from repeated bouts of anxiety, run the risk of being permanently disabled unless they seek professional treatment for the disorder.
Anxiety or depression, can have devastating effects on a person's Life, by destroying personal relationships with family, friends and work mates. The loss of communication between one's friends and family will exacerbate the condition, and ultimately lead to a complete nervous breakdown.
A deep rooted, anxious state of mind will quickly lead to serious physical health concerns such as, heart attack or stroke. Irregular eating habits, sleeping disorders and breathing problems can be brought about by chronic anxiety or depression. Such problems can affect blood pressure, increase the risk of heart attack and cause damage to the body's vital organs. Irregular blood pressure is the major cause of stroke, which can adversely affect the body's physical performance and leave one with permanent brain damage.
Physical and mental problems attributed to anxiety, also include a loss of performance by the body's immune system, leaving one vulnerable to colds and other respiratory tract infections. Constant bouts of colds and 'flu weaken the body's resistance further, which can lead to many other serious health disorders such as, digestive problems, pneumonia, hepatitis and kidney malfunction.
An anxious person may find some comfort by overindulging in food, alcohol, coffee, candy, prescription medications and other drugs that may, or may not be prescribed. A mental health professional will provide therapy that will control a patient's urges and introduce them to a healthy lifestyle.
