Different Types Of Anxiety

Anxiety, is a term used to describe a range of mental health disorders that are caused by being constantly exposed to stressful situations. There are millions of Americans being diagnosed with anxiety disorder each year, and it is ranked as the number one cause of disability among mental health patients.


There are a number of symptoms that indicate an anxiety disorder is developing, and it is in one's best interest to seek medical advice, and undergo treatment. Symptoms and effects of anxiety disorders vary from person to person, and will increase in intensity if left untreated.

One of the common types of anxiety disorder is panic and, as the name implies, the symptoms consist of the sudden appearance of short periods of intense fear, apprehension or physical irritations. Physical symptoms include, feeling nauseous, gagging, shortness of breath, palpitations, sweating, chest pain, headache, giddiness, hot or cold flushes, trembling, or feelings of doom. If the condition is not adequately treated, these symptoms can become extremely intense and may result in disastrous consequences. Should you be experiencing any one or a number of these symptoms, you should seek professional advice immediately.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, known as OCD, is also a commonly diagnosed mental health disorder that is a type of anxiety. The disorder is distinguished by the affected person repeatedly performing tasks that are time consuming or may cause significant distress or abuse. These obsessions are constant thoughts or impulses that a person experiences, and provoke bouts of anxiety or stress. The sufferer is unable to control his thoughts and his mind constantly dwells on an obsessive issue.

Common obsessions include, personal health concerns, pedantic behavior, nagging thoughts of forgetfulness, aggressive urges and sexual fantasies. The sufferer eases these thoughts or worries by constantly repeating certain tasks. These tasks may include things like, repeatedly washing clothes, the body, the car the house, combing the hair, asking the same question or pacing. Mentally counting, praying or whispering to one's self.

Anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, religion, or social standing can suffer from anxiety disorder. Early diagnosis of the disorder is imperative for the problem to be alleviated, before it can ruin one's lifestyle. Medical treatment for mental health disorders is becoming more effective and is readily available to the general public.

There are many types of anxiety disorders, and each one affects different people in different ways. If you suffer from any unexplained symptoms or uncontrollable urges, then seek medical advice at the first opportunity. Your health is your most important asset, and you need good health in order to lead a normal, happy lifestyle.
