Alternative Therapy Reduces Hypertension

from: Oze Parrot

The world Health Organization estimates that 600 million people in the world are affected by hypertension, and according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, there are 50 million Americans suffering from the disorder. Thirty percent of affected Americans are unaware of their condition. Approximately 20,000 deaths per year in the U.S.A. are related to hypertension.

Hypertension, refers to a higher than normal blood pressure in the body's arteries. High blood pressure places the whole body in jeopardy, as it will lead to a number of disabling conditions including, heart disease, stroke and kidney failure. Chronic high blood pressure will cause severe damage to the body's vital organs and will ultimately bring about one's premature death.

Early diagnosis of high blood pressure is most desirable, so that treatment can be put into place to control the condition before one becomes chronically ill. The early stages of pre-hypertension may be controlled by a routine change in diet and exercise habits, although generally, medication is prescribed to quickly bring the blood pressure back to a normal level.

Hypertension is also regarded as a silent killer because initially, there are no disturbing symptoms, in fact, a feeling of wellbeing is present, and even as the condition escalates, early symptoms are extremely vague, like occasional headaches, dizziness or feeling mildly confused. Most cases of high blood pressure are diagnosed during routine medical checks and this is one good reason for having regular medical check-ups.

Acupuncture, is a part of Chinese medicine, and is used by it's devotees to treat most common ailments. The therapy involves the use of very fine needles to puncture the body's skin at specific points, in order to relieve blockages in the body's energy channels. The process restores the free flow of energy throughout the body, which eases symptoms and ultimately, cures the ailment.

The ancient Chinese art, is being used by many practitioners to complement conventional medical measures, in the control of high blood pressure. Case histories have shown that electrically stimulated acupuncture treatments can reduce blood pressure in the short term by 50 percent. Traditional Chinese Medicine, considers that hypertension is a result of an ailment within the body, therefore acupuncture therapy is not applied to merely relieve the symptoms, but to actually treat the cause of the condition.

If you have been diagnosed with hypertension and would prefer to use natural therapy, rather than conventional prescription drugs, then consult an experienced acupuncturist.
